Summary!!!

In the kingdom of Axaria, a darkness rises.

Some call it a monster, laying waste to the villagers and their homes.
Some say it is an invulnerable demon summoned from the deepest abysses of the Immortal Realm.
Many soldiers from the royal guard are sent out to hunt it down.
Not one has ever returned.

When Asterin Faelenhart, Princess of Axaria and heir to the throne, discovers that she may hold the key to defeating the mysterious demon terrorizing her kingdom, she vows not to rest until the beast is slain. With the help of her friends and the powers she wields — though has yet to fully understand — Asterin sets out to complete a single task. The task that countless trained soldiers have failed.

To kill it.

But as they hunt for the demon, they unearth a plot to assassinate the princess herself instead. Asterin and her companions begin to wonder how much of their lives have been lies, especially when they realize that the center of the web of deceit might very well be themselves. With no one else to turn to, they are forced to decide just how much they are willing to sacrifice to protect the only world they have ever known.

That is … if the demon doesn’t get to them first.

From young author Coco Ma comes a dazzling new tale of adventure, power, and betrayal, weaving together a stunning world of magic with a killer cast in an explosive, unforgettable debut.

My Thoughts:

I overall thought the world building was super fun. I really liked the general plot of the book and found it to be super interesting. I did not feel as connected to the characters as I wanted and it was hard to become invested. I thought the book had some pacing issues but it was enjoyable read. I loved the elements that were introduced at the end and found that to be super compelling. I liked the various POV that we got but wish they were made more clearer in the format. I will def be reading book 2!

Summary!!!

Tala Warnock has little use for magic – as a descendant of Maria Makiling, the legendary Filipina heroine, she negates spells, often by accident. But her family’s old ties to the country of Avalon (frozen, bespelled, and unreachable for almost 12 years) soon finds them guarding its last prince from those who would use his kingdom’s magic for insidious ends.

And with the rise of dangerous spelltech in the Royal States of America; the appearance of the firebird, Avalon’s deadliest weapon, at her doorstep; and the re-emergence of the Snow Queen, powerful but long thought dead, who wants nothing more than to take the firebird’s magic for her own – Tala’s life is about to get even more complicated….

My Thoughts:

This book was such a welcome surprise. I loved both the set up of this book and also how this book was structured. I really was impressed and captured by the world building throughout the whole novel. I thought the main characters were super easy to become invested in and also really loved the “rag tag bunch of heroes”. I also really enjoyed the various fairy tale characters that used to that filled this world . I really loved the pace of this novel and found this book to be both super heartfelt but also really funny read. I thought some moments the world building could of been clearer but I think because this world was so vast, it was understandable. I really am excited for more books in this series eventually!

Summary!!

There’s trouble in Nova and the citizens of the kingdom must once again put their faith in Samantha Kemi to save the day in the final novel of the “charming and humorous” (Kirkus Reviews) Potion Diaries series.

After the royal tour, Samantha Kemi thought she could take a break from saving the day. Her grandfather Ostanes is healthy, she’s about to be named a Master Alchemist, and Princess Evelyn is happily married to Prince Stefan.

Except—Sam has no proof that Evelyn is happily married because she hasn’t seen the princess in days…Prince Stefan is now the public face of the Royal family.

Princess Evelyn has gone MIA just when Nova (and Sam) needs her most. A surge of magic is spreading across the country—like a virus—and every Talented person is suddenly more powerful. With the Talenteds getting stronger, Ordinary people begin to worry about an imbalance in the magic streams—and in society. When a group of Talented kids—Sam’s sister Molly Among them—are attacked with a powerful sleeping potion, Prince Stefan is convinced that the Ordinary people are taking a radical stand against Talenteds and reinstates the old ban on traditional alchemy.

Now Sam’s hands are tied. Does she trust Nova’s scientists to find a synthetic cure to this curse, or does she break Stefan’s royal decree and use her skills to save her little sister—and possibly all of Nova—from a forever sleep?

Summary!!

Don’t miss this spectacular debut novel… Can a girl who risks her life for books and an alien who loves forbidden pop music work together to save humanity? This road trip is truly out of this world! A beautiful and thrilling read for fans of Marie Lu and Veronica Roth.

Two years ago, a misunderstanding between the leaders of Earth and the invading Ilori resulted in the deaths of one-third of the world’s population.

Seventeen-year-old Janelle “Ellie” Baker survives in an Ilori-controlled center in New York City. With humans deemed dangerously volatile because of their initial reaction to the invasion, emotional expression can be grounds for execution. Music, art and books are illegal, but Ellie breaks the rules by keeping a secret library. When a book goes missing, Ellie is terrified that the Ilori will track it back to her and kill her.

Born in a lab, M0Rr1S was raised to be emotionless. When he finds Ellie’s illegal library, he’s duty-bound to deliver her for execution. The trouble is, he finds himself drawn to human music and in desperate need of more. They’re both breaking the rules for the love of art—and Ellie inspires the same feelings in him that music does.

Ellie’s—and humanity’s—fate rests in the hands of an alien she should fear. M0Rr1S has a lot of secrets, but also a potential solution—thousands of miles away. The two embark on a wild and dangerous road trip with a bag of books and their favorite albums, all the while creating a story and a song of their own that just might save them both.

Summary!!!

Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the worst thing she’d ever been through. That was before her planet was invaded. Now, with enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra are forced to fight their way onto one of the evacuating craft, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But the warship could be the least of their problems. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet’s AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their biggest threat; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady plunges into a web of data hacking to get to the truth, it’s clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: Ezra.

Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

My Thoughts:

I really loved the way this story was crafted and told. It was told through email and hacked documents and etc. It was a story that I expected to impersonal but grew to really love and NEED to know what happen to the characters. It was such a fast pace read and at the heart of this story was the characters of ezra and Kady. It really asks alot of questions like what makes you human and what can and what won’t break you. The ending of this book was insane and I need the next one.

Note this book you need to read the actual physical book, don’t read on your kindle/ nook or listen to via audio book . TRUST ME.

2020 Note: On re-read. I have loved the audiobook! (less)

Summary!!!

Some legends never die…

Traveling with her treasure-hunting father has always been a dream for Theodora. She’s read every book in his library, has an impressive knowledge of the world’s most sought-after relics, and has all the ambition in the world. What she doesn’t have is her father’s permission. That honor goes to her father’s nineteen-year-old protégé—and once-upon-a-time love of Theodora’s life—Huck Gallagher, while Theodora is left to sit alone in her hotel in Istanbul.

Until Huck returns from an expedition without her father and enlists Theodora’s help in rescuing him. Armed with her father’s travel journal, the reluctant duo learns that her father had been digging up information on a legendary and magical ring that once belonged to Vlad the Impaler—more widely known as Dracula—and that it just might be the key to finding him.

Journeying into Romania, Theodora and Huck embark on a captivating adventure through Gothic villages and dark castles in the misty Carpathian Mountains to recover the notorious ring. But they aren’t the only ones who are searching for it. A secretive and dangerous occult society with a powerful link to Vlad the Impaler himself is hunting for it, too. And they will go to any lengths—including murder—to possess it.

My Thoughts:

I simply adored this book. I flew through this read. I thought this was firstly a solid standalone but am dying for more books following these characters. I simply loved Theodora characters so much and found her to be unique heroine and loved it. I also loved how this was structure with the narrative and also the letters. I loved both the setting of this book and found it to such a refreshing read. I loved the mystery elements and how this book played with fantasy elements. I loved how even thought this book focused on two characters we did meet so many others characters that easily expanded the world. I thought the romance in this book was so awesome and loved the hate to love mix with a blast from the past romance. I loved the plot of this book and found it to both unique and different if you enjoy books like hunting prince dracula. I also found the writing and pacing to be easy to read and hard to put down. Such a solid read.

My Thoughts:

I loved the start of this read. I also really liked the lead characters and the world building and the setting of this story. I loved the hesit themed elements in this mystery and thriller story. I did not feel super engaged in thew writing and it sometimes took me out of the story at points. I liked that we had a such a wide cast of characters but they all did not feel well developed. I thought that this book even thought it will be series was a solid conclusion for the first book in the series. It was very unique premise and I would def read more by this author in the future!
