I would give this book 4 for a review.

When assassins ambush her best friend, Rielle Dardenne risks everything to save him, exposing herself as one of a pair of prophesied queens: a queen of light, and a queen of blood. To prove she is the Sun Queen, Rielle must endure seven elemental magic trials. If she fails, she will be executed…unless the trials kill her first.

One thousand years later, the legend of Queen Rielle is a fairy tale to Eliana Ferracora. A bounty hunter for the Undying Empire, Eliana believes herself untouchable—until her mother vanishes. To find her, Eliana joins a rebel captain and discovers that the evil at the empire’s heart is more terrible than she ever imagined.

As Rielle and Eliana fight in a cosmic war that spans millennia, their stories intersect, and the shocking connections between them ultimately determine the fate of their world—and of each other.

My Brief Thoughts:

I really loved this book. I thought the duel POV and duel time lines was a such a engaging way to tell this story. I grew to enjoy both sides of this story. It is interesting story because you know the ending but seeing how you get there is fun ride. I loved both female leads and also how magic was represented in this story. I really loved the character of simon ( i love that name btw) and hope we get more backstory about him in the future books. I love how both stories tied together in the end. It was slow burn story but towards the end it was hard to put down. I will def be reading book two.

My Extended Thoughts!

Characters: It took awhile to like both sides of the story. I felt like i was missing key facts that I need to really understand these characters. There was a lot of mystery around these characters and it took me maybe until 50% to become invested in both sides. I am now curious to see where this story goes. But the back half of this book def answered some of my questions that I had.

Pace: I wanted this story to have a faster pace in some ways in both aspects of the story. In E side there is a mystery she need to solve but it kept getting shove to the background and the trials R was going through was a not super engaging as a plot device. I want this book to be more  engaging pace wise but I did enjoy this slow burn story for sure.

World Building: I found this world building to be a highlight of this story. I was really invested in the world and how she crafted her world. I feel like this world still as elements i am unclear about, but hopefully book two will give us some more calrity!

Will I read Book 2: I will def be checking it out!

later book lovers!
