I would give this book 4 for a review.
Rufus Holt is having the worst night of his life. It begins with the reappearance of his ex-boyfriend, Sebastian—the guy who stomped his heart out like a spent cigarette. Just as Rufus is getting ready to move on, Sebastian turns up out of the blue, saying they need to “talk.” Things couldn’t get worse, right?
Then Rufus gets a call from his sister April, begging for help. He and Sebastian find her, drenched in blood and holding a knife beside the dead body of her boyfriend, Fox Whitney.
April swears she didn’t kill Fox. Rufus knows her too well to believe she’s telling him the whole truth, but April has something he needs. Her price is his help. Now, with no one to trust but the boy he wants to hate yet can’t stop loving, Rufus has one night to clear his sister’s name . . . or die trying.
My Breif Thoughts:
This was a super engaging mystery. i really did enjoy the duel time lines we got in this story. I was super engaged in the mystery and had had time predicting it. I thought it handled so many topics in a realistic fashion but the LGBTQ lead and how it was addressed was so well done. I just loved the main character and the whole story. This story was super engaging but also hard to put down. If you are looking for realistic mystery with a fun lead! Check it out!
My Extended Thoughts:
Character/Diversity: I really liked all the characters in this book. I thought this book had a solid cast of characters. I loved the Rufas was a LGBTQ character and that it is was not the “focal” part of the story. I loved delving more into his history in the flashbacks. I thought that the present story was focus more on him solving the mystery. I really enjoyed the cast of characters but they are not prefect and super realistic. I def want to read more by these authors in the future.
Mystery: The mystery was super fast pace and super hard to predict. I loved the who don it aspect and how the story had so many twists and turns and I could not predict who was the killer. It was super well done.
Pacing: The plot was super fast pace with limited down moments and I loved it!
Would I read more by this author in the future: I def will. I will most likely grab them from my library.
